About Dotson Canine Training

At Dotson Canine Training we seek to empower owners with their dogs.

We aim to build up the relationship between people and their companions through structured, loving training.

We never harm a dog, but to take a balanced approach to training to give them clear guidance on what good and bad behaviors are with simple corrections and rewards to guide their steps... and sits.

We want to keep dogs out of shelters and off the euthanasia table. We seek to assist shelters in getting dogs out of their facilities and into loving families by equipping the dogs with the training necessary to function in healthy family life with their adopted families.

We offer to consult families on dog breed selection. We want every family that is getting a dog to be given the proper knowledge and assistance they need to pick the perfect canine for their lifestyle so that both family and dog can thrive together in their home.

Calm, Consistent, Loving, Leadership

"Leadership Is Love"

My wife and I bought our dog Pippin when he was 5 months old. Pippin was extremely fearful and reactive to people around us. While Pippin was clearly sweet and loved people very much he could not handle being around people outside of the home and his energy was not tamable at home when people came to visit. We loved him very much still and worked hard to pursue helping him to have a better, fulfilling life.

Using balanced training methods we work hard to train him into the dog he is, showing him calm, consistent, loving leadership so that he does not have to feel high strung and protective. He is an excellent guard dog, but we are happy to relieve him from his position every moment we can so that he is able to live a joyful life.

Leading calmly and consistently shows him love as he is able to let the weight of the world off of his shoulders. As I continued to train him it was evident how relaxed he got as his reactivity died down towards other dogs and his general love for me and my wife grew. He looked up to us to know what to do next.

Learning all of this greatly inspired me to help other people around me to have calm dogs and that calmness starts first with the owner. We must be fair to our dogs and communicate with them in ways they understand. We must show them love through leadership and through positive reinforcement through all the good things that they do. We aim to under no circumstances harm our dogs, but gently point them in the right direction. We do not lead from the point of fear, but we lead through love and respect shared with our canine companions.

Pippin will always stand to me as a prime example of how a dog can change to be calm and easily led. He is now a confident dog that helps me to continuously learn how to train better and better. He is the reason that I am here to help others find the canine companion they always wanted in their dog.
